Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at christi.murphy@ymail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I am a home-based baker and do not operate a storefront or walk-in bakery. Orders are placed in advance, and I’m happy to connect by text, phone, or email to answer questions or discuss your needs. For more detailed consultations, I often meet with clients via video chat to review design ideas, flavors, and event details.

To begin, we’ll schedule a consultation via video chat using Microsoft Teams. During this meeting, we’ll review all the details of your order, including design, flavors, and event specifics. After our discussion, you’ll receive a written quote along with a visual representation of everything discussed to ensure all details are accurate and clearly communicated.

Absolutely! I strive to be flexible to accommodate your busy schedule. While most consultations are virtual, I am happy to meet in person at convenient locations such as Starbucks, Panera Bread, or another spot that works for you. I’ve also met clients at schools, hospitals, or offices for a quick meet-and-greet or to drop off samples. I truly go the extra mile—literally—to make the process easy and enjoyable for you.

Once the quote is signed and a retainer fee (deposit) is submitted to reserve your date and time, your order will be officially placed on our schedule. You’re welcome to reach out at any time if there are updates or additional details related to your order. Final confirmation will be provided the week prior to your event.

As soon as you know we are the baker for you! Do your due diligence and compare our services, flavors, prices, and responsiveness to others you are considering. But if you feel certain we are the baker that best suits your needs, then we recommend reserving your date as early as possible to ensure availability.

Yes. You’re welcome to update or change flavors or design details at any time up to 7 days before your event. However, if your order was to be delivered, changes to the event date or delivery time are subject to availability and must not conflict with orders already on the schedule.  If a scheduling conflict occurs due to a client-initiated change, the order will be fulfilled for pickup rather than delivery, with no adjustment to pricing.

If your order is canceled 14 days or more before your event, all payments made to Nummy Crumb, LLC (minus the non-refundable retainer fee) will be refunded within 2 business days. Please note that all retainer fees used to secure your order are non-refundable.

Orders of $300 or more qualify for complimentary delivery. Orders under $300 are subject to a $75 delivery charge. For locations outside a 30-mile radius from our St. Matthews home office, the delivery fee will be adjusted based on the additional distance traveled.

Because Nummy Crumb, LLC operates under a Kentucky Cottage Food License, we are legally permitted to prepare and deliver baked goods only within the state of Kentucky. Deliveries to locations in Indiana are not allowed under this license. This ensures compliance with state regulations and the safety of all products.

No. To reserve your date and time, we require both a signed contract and a $100 retainer, which will be applied toward your final balance. Each new order is coordinated with existing orders to ensure delivery times do not conflict.

Please note: a signed contract alone does not secure your date, and a retainer received without a signed contract is also insufficient. Both the contract and the retainer must be received by our office for your date to be officially secured.

The remaining balance for your order is due 14 days prior to your event. If the balance is not paid in full by this date, a late fee will be applied. If the full balance and any late fees are not received by 4 days before your event, the order will be canceled, and any payments made will be non-refundable.

If paying via PayPal invoice with a debit or credit card, a 5% processing fee will apply. Alternatively, clients may remit payment by check or cash to avoid this fee.

Many of our products are listed as “custom pricing” because the final cost depends on several factors, including the number of servings, the level of detail, and the complexity of the design. This allows us to create a product that’s perfectly tailored to your event while providing an accurate quote based on your specific needs.

I’m located in St. Matthews. Due to Cottage Food Laws, I am unable to ship cookie orders. Orders can be picked up at my location, or delivered locally when possible. Delivery is available for orders of $300 or more. For orders under $300, a delivery fee will be applied.

Cookies ordered by the dozen are packaged in food-safe cellophane bags, either tied with a ribbon bow or heat-sealed for maximum freshness. If you’re planning to use cookies as favors for your guests, each cookie can be individually bagged and heat-sealed—making them easy to take home.

Absolutely! I welcome special requests and have happily crafted custom flavors for clients over the years. Many reviews mention flavors that aren’t part of my regular menu, showing I’m always ready to help you create something special. See FLAVORS list here.

No. I currently offer decorated royal icing sugar cookies, 6" wedding cakes, cupcakes, wedding sheet cakes (pre-sliced), decorated sheet cakes, and all occasion cakes. See our GALLERY here.

When planning dessert quantities, the style of your reception plays an important role. For formal events such as a seated dinner, it’s generally recommended to provide dessert for every guest. Many couples choose to hold the ceremonial cake cutting before dinner so the cake can be sliced in advance and served to guests at their tables as dessert during the meal.

For buffet-style receptions, dessert planning can be more flexible. Several factors may influence how much to order:

• Cupcakes vs. traditional wedding cake:
While dessert quantities are often reduced when alcohol is served, cupcakes are a special case. Cupcake displays tend to attract attention, are easy to grab, and guests sometimes take more than one. For this reason, we typically recommend planning for one cupcake per guest. Ultimately, the final decision is yours—these are simply helpful guidelines.

• Non-alcoholic receptions:
Plan to order dessert for all guests in attendance.

• Receptions with an open bar:
It’s common to reduce dessert quantities by approximately 15–20%, as guests tend to consume less cake when alcohol is served.

• Additional dessert offerings (such as chocolate fountains or candy tables):
When multiple sweet options are available, the amount of cake or dessert can usually be reduced accordingly.

Every reception is unique, and I’m always happy to help guide you once I have more details about your event. These percentages are general estimates, not strict rules. Most importantly, this is your celebration and your investment—choose what feels right for you. If traditional wedding etiquette is a priority, you may wish to consult a wedding planning guide. Otherwise, trusting your instincts is often the best approach.

While we take care to prepare and transport your cake properly, we cannot guarantee that cakes or cupcakes delivered for outdoor events will be unaffected by heat, humidity, or other weather conditions. Clients assume responsibility when planning outdoor receptions.

To minimize exposure, we recommend scheduling your delivery as close to the event time as possible. I can deliver the cake to the kitchen to remain refrigerated until it’s time for cutting. When the reception is ready for the cake cutting, it can then be transported easily to the cake table.

I am happy to use a cake stand provided by you, as long as it is sturdy and safe for your setup. If I determine that the stand is unsteady or otherwise unsuitable, I will not use it for your order. To avoid any concerns, it’s best to rent from a reputable rental company, use a stand from my collection, or show me the equipment prior to your wedding day so we can confirm it is safe and appropriate for your display.

No, I do not rent cake stands. You’re welcome to provide your own, and I’ll use it as long as it is sturdy and safe for your display.

I typically bake cakes two to three days prior to your event to ensure optimal freshness. For Saturday weddings, baking is done on Wednesdays, with decorating completed on Thursdays and Fridays. My production schedule is carefully planned based on the size of the order, the number of flavors selected, and the intricacy of the design.

I will say, however, that my cakes are "never frozen."  This is my personal guarantee to you!!  My reputation as a baker depends on the work I produce.  It's a fact that "bad news travels fast", so I will always strive to create the most beautiful, breathtaking, and delicious cookies, cakes, and cupcakes I can.

Every couple receives detailed, computer-generated Cake Notes that clearly document all design elements. These notes include reference photos (yours or mine), diagrams of the cake’s shape and size, color palettes, and specific details such as stacking style, columns, cake stands, and decorative elements.

During your final consultation, we take the time needed to thoughtfully design, review, and confirm every detail together. You will receive a visual representation of your cake so there is no guesswork—your vision is clearly defined and fully understood. This process ensures we are completely aligned on every element, large and small.

Yes, a box is provided unless you let us know that you do not plan to save the top layer. There is no formal etiquette requirement to save your cake for your first anniversary—this is a personal choice made by each couple.

Absolutely. I am honored to create cakes and desserts for celebrations of love in all its forms. Whether you’re celebrating a wedding, birthday, graduation, baby shower, or any meaningful milestone, everyone deserves to be celebrated with joy, beauty, and something sweet. I welcome all couples and proudly serve love and happiness—without exception.
